A lot of people talk about self-love and self-care together as if they are mutually exclusive but that is not the case.
Self-love is a goal that has to be practiced every single day while self-care is a way to carve out time for your needs.
It can seem even from those definitions that they go hand in hand but you can take care of someone you don’t love and if you practice self-care but not self-love that is exactly what you are doing.
Creating a self-care routine can seem easy, for me, self-care is as simple as not rushing my showers and watching an episode of one my TV shows a night.
Self-care can be whatever it is that helps you de-stress. Self-love can be more challenging to incorporate but it is an important part of self-care.
So here are 5 practices that you can incorporate into your self-care routine to amp up your self-love.
1. Listen To Your Body
Listening to your body is KEY to self-love and overall health. Taking the time to step back and sit with yourself is a simple way to give back to your mind and body. A self-care practice like meditation is so helpful especially if you do it with the intention of honoring this body that fights for you every day.
2. Speak Positively To Yourself
Affirmations are talked about often when talking about self-care and they are a great way to get out of your head and tell yourself that you will take on the world. Affirming your dreams and strength to achieve your dreams is great, but make sure that your affirmations include self-love. Affirm to yourself EVERY DAY that you are beautiful, that you’re loving, that you are loved, that you are enough. Kick your inner mean girl to the side and start seeing the beauty of being you.
3. Change Your Mindset
Our mindset controls everything and changing it can very difficult. It is so easy to believe the inner voices of our mind but that is the reason why having a positive inner voice is so important. Affirmations are very helpful in changing our mindset. Another way is the fight over the voice. Every time your inner mean girl tells you that you aren’t enough, take that very moment to re-affirm that you are. Repeat it in your head over and over again until you believe.
4. Forgive Yourself
Forgiveness is the best gift you can give to yourself or anyone. You don’t have to forgive and forget but you do have to forgive. Learn from your mistakes and be thankful for them. Every mistake is a lesson learned and now you can forgive yourself for that and grow. Loving yourself while beating yourself up over every little mistake that you make is not true self-love. Let go and forgive yourself. You deserve it.
5. Throw Away Others’ Opinions
Other people’s opinions have a way of sticking with us and popping up when we are so close to doing something spectacular. The thoughts of others can cause you to question yourself, but you know yourself best. Don’t let what other people think makes you feel like you don’t know who you are. You know your heart and your mind. Trust yourself and don’t let others opinions get in the way of you loving yourself.
